Wondering if anyone with experience on nitriding parts can say whether an original blued finish needs to be removed prior to nitride finishing.
I am kind of guess it should be and it isn't that hard to do but just curious.

Also any recommendations on the best place to get them done? I know of some places to do so but I don't know if there is kind of a best spot.

Thanks for any info or recommendations!

It largely depends on the metal and it's surface properties. There are also high and low temp methods depending on intended use. I think there is no easy answer to your question.

I was hoping to do a salt bath but I'm not yet sure whether many places actually do that form.

If you want to easly remove bluing
Degrease your parts and soak them
In ordinary household vinegar for 20 min.
