Nitro carburizing ever again???

This would make money as a treatment for sure. My M&P pistol is Melonite treated and it's been beat to sh*t and still shines like a new gun. I'd take this treatment on any gun, any time and pay handsomely for it, if it were available.

I called around back when the service was being offered... there are several places in Canada that can do it, but, there's a minimum charge (it was around the $1000 mark if I recall).

It's only worth it if a bunch of people do it together. ~Cheers

I had my '858 Rauch nitrocarburized, the treatment is awesome and was quite reasonably priced at $120.

However it made for a lengthy process from the time I shipped it to the time I got it back, and also I wonder sometimes if it was worth doing to a cheapish CZ858?

Here is an interesting read that I found: Melonite can be used on such steel grades as 416 stainless and 4140. However, it has the disadvantage of actually removing some of the properties of 416 stainless steel. The melonite process also produces a black finish instead of the gray color of Tenifer.

It was this para that I was referring to. I missed that you were quoting from a source. I thought you typed it. Its the "removing some properties of 416 stainless" that makes me uneasy. Understand that i don't know whether or not guns are made from 416 ss.
