Lets have a talk... who restored an Enfield No. 1 Mk 3* or other Lee Enfield/Metford/Remington-Lee (?) and sought out a full set of wood, how did you find it? How did you restore it? Was it assembled or bought all at once?

Never restored one myself, although I did consider it until I couldn't source any fore stocks.

Having said that, there is one (that I've found) US based site that sells No. 1 Mk. III fore stocks for $110USD - but they will not ship to Canada. Butts, forward/rear hand guards are fairly easy to come by.

I too have been on the hunt for stocks, they show up from time to time on the EE but are often just on piece of the 3 or 4 needed. I would be happy with a reproduction set but even those seem to be impossible to find. I have found an Australian site but I don’t know if it’s the real deal or not. Mabey someone here would have more insite on it. I will post the link.

A member here was selling complete kits to rebuild an SMLE back from sporter class.
He had some health issues that slowed things down and I just got the last of the parts a few weeks back.
I had ordered two sets and they weren't cheap, but certainly worth it.

I've just fit one butt to its receiver, due to the busy-ness of the season.
One thing to watch for is if you use the stock bolt for the final fitting, it tends to turn the butt clockwise in the socket and you tend to take of extra wood on one side so the butt is twisted.
It's better to tap the butt into the socket with a rubber mallet, as you search for high spots.

I have a No.1 Mk.3* that has a dark finish on the buttstock while the fore end is much lighter. Was contemplating getting a darker stock set to make it look more uniform but having "multicoloured" SMLE's isn't really that uncommon either. Over time I felt it had more character with two colours, haha.

When I looked into it, I found these guys who are based out of Regina, I think? Could try them.

they are real great guys to deal with. i havent purchased any wood from them but i have purchased other parts. they usually will only respond to email so i wouldnt waste your time calling. but they got back to me within a day.

I restored an SMLE and a #4 mk 1, I got everything from a guy at the Calgary gun show.
His name is Jack, he always has a table full of stock sets and metal parts.

A picture of the two rifles.

I have one that i'd like to restore. I've started collecting the metal parts I need, but haven't had much luck finding the wood yet. I'm seriously considering making my own, but without any original pieces to use for patterns, it could prove difficult.

I'm surprised that Boyd's doesn't make replacement wood sets.

yeah, getting my originals and repros for patterns wasn't too much trouble back in 2013-14. the US suppliers that would ship had a few. those guys are all sold out now, and the other US suppliers that have them won't ship cross border, some won't even sell to other suppliers if they know that that supplier will ship them to Canada, APEX is one of those non shipping suppliers. I called them, they said as much.
