Both No.1 Mk.III rifles I bought recently arrived with no complete mags. Both are missing the platform and spring. I have located a couple #3 platforms and springs and wondered if these will fit and operate in the mags. I am just a newbie to the military guns and have a refurbished 1913 Enfield .410 and now a 1918 enfield .303 being redone.

Thanks for any help in this matter.....

"...missing the platform and spring..." The follower and its spring? Buy a mag. Gunparts wants $31.45US each.
A P14 is nothing like a No. 1 Mk III. The only thing that is interchangeable is the ammo.

I did manage to find a spare for a No4 Mk1 Enfield mag. It's not exactly identical to the No1 Mk3's, but I wonder if it still would work?

As stated....I know little about these great guns and the ad is for #3 platform. What that is probably holds the bullets in rotation in the mag. Underneath is the flat spring (follower?) they may be in different metals (steel or aluminum) but to me as a novice the mags look all the same shape and size. Why would they change the size and shapes if they housed the same ammo.

"...follower?..." The follower is what the ammo sits on in the mag. The follower spring is the bent flat spring that pushes the follower up.
A No. 1 mag has two locking lugs on the back. A No. 4 mag has only one. The mags are not interchangeable. Reducing the number of lugs made manufacturing easier.
A Pattern 14(P14 AKA No. 3 rifle) looks like this, but chambered in .303 British. They're a totally different rifle from a No. 1 Mk III Lee-Enfield. No detachable mag either.
Gunparts has followers and springs for them(listed under 'Enfield'), but not for Lee-Enfields(all of 'em listed under 'SMLE' for some strange reason). http://www.surplusrifle.com/m1917/index.asp
A P17 was the other rifle used by the U.S. during W.W. I.

This is the ad I talk about. I would like to know what these followers are for and if they will fit the mag on a #1 Mk.III*. Neither rifle I own has the followers and spring.

8. No. 3 platform and spring for the SMLE magazine case. British manufacture. $10 plus shipping.

9. No. 3 platform and spring for the SMLE magazine case.British manufacture.$10 plus shipping.

Based on that information, it sounds like the seller is making the common mistake of calling a No1 MkIII, a No3!!! He does mention SMLE after all. So I would buy them and restore your mags, worst come to worst, you're not out that much money and if it's the wrong parts and you could always resell them.

And yes, the MkIII and MkIII* magazines and their components (follower, spring etc) are the same.

Louthe pou is looking for a follower and spring for my rifle. It is the same one I look for the followers. but he may still want an exchange . He did an excellent job on refurbing my 1913 #1 Mk.III* .410 so I sent him my 1918 Mk. III* .303 to refurb also.
