After restoring my k98 to her former glory, I decided to give this old girl a go. She's a no 4 mk I (no star, has the weird bolt catch/button thingy) Faz. No dates, FTRd. She now has a minty LB barrel.

Came to me with a broken and bubba'd rear sight, filed into an off center notch, and missing the pin that keeps the slider on the ladder, and needed the spacer. I found another at the gun show for $15 that was missing the spring, but didn't need a spacer, and re-arsenalled them into one complete one :)

Then I got a surprise in the mail today! Fresh from YT, my NOS wood set and hardware set from arealgunnut. Wood looks NICE. There were a few little storage and handling dings, but a quick steam took care of the bulk of that. Going to hit em with the BLO when I get home from work tonight, give er another coat tomorrow, and see where it ends up!

She's beautiful!

Colour was a decent match when I got it but butt was a little rough in texture and kind of a matte finish. I wet sanded it 3 times with 400 grit and BLO, allowing a day or 2 to dry in between, then applied another 3 coats with 0000 steel wool. After this, applied a very light hand rubbed coat (maybe 5 drops of BLO) every day for about 2 weeks. The colour is a very decent match right now. Ended up keeping the original brass butt plate and milled sling swivel on her, just transferred to the long buttstock.

Anyone have any ideas on the stamps? Other than the wrist and left side of receiver, there is a Fazakerly "F" on the front sight protector, a LB on the barrel, a Crown BNP on the barel shank, and the serial number is lazer engraved on the barrel shank (hidden under wood) and bottom of the magazine.

I wanted to put it together as soon as I got the stock parts, but I knew it would be easier to finish left apart :) Then imagine my horror when I needed to file my nicely finished wood so the band would go on :O
