No.4 mk1* Lose butt stock.

I took my enfield out to the range, and on the way back to the car I noticed the butt wiggling alittle bit. It was tight before I got there, any way to tighten it back up?

Yup, open up the little hinge. I got my first gun yesterday (No 4 Mk 1*) and the butt stock wasn't installed. I'll be honest.. I was sitting there scratching my head haha. I had to pm the seller

I wonder if the spring washer is missing, they don't usually work loose.

I use a long,almost sword-like, driver than I bought from Princess Auto some yrs ago. In addition to the long reach it has a square shank which lets you use a crescent wrench on it to get some good torque on the stock bolt.

Yea, there was no washer inside the butt. It wasn't really a noticeable wobble, I just tend to check it over and felt an ever so slight movement to either side.

Are there period correct washers or should I just throw something in there since nobody will ever see it anyway?

There is a correct spring washer yes, but if you don't have one a flat washer that fits followed by a lockwasher should suffice.

I had one Hell of a time finding the right size washers to fit! It can be done, though. Be careful, if you don't have the washers in there, the bolt can poke out too far and split the fore wood. That would be a disaster!

looks like I could run into trouble with a problem I didn't even know existed! thanks, last thing I want is to crack my stock which by-the-way is stamped with the matching serial numbers.

That's for real- That happened to me once...fortunately it was an Ishy screwed scalloped forend that I couldn't stand the sight of...

Poor little Ishy. I'd probably pass out if I did something like that to my Longbranch.
