No. 4 Rifle Drawings

You won't find blue prints for any Lee-Enfield. Unless you find somebody who stole them from the factory 50 plus years ago.

You've got 663 meters of records to sift through ;) They don't seem to be indexed yet, and are not available for public consultation :(

Here's what you're interested in possibly "80103-51 consists of material depicting the western front in Europe during the First World War, training camps in Canada and Great Britain, and plans of equipment."

Can't say for sure if that includes rifle blueprints.

If anyone is interested, LAC also has Ross's papers and such. Only 2m of records ;)

Includes some technical drawings. next time I'm there I'll have to order it up and see what is in there :)

Well, I went ahead and drew it anyways. I got really into it. I'm no artist, so I'm actually pretty proud of how it turned out!

You might try www.skennerton.com
He did, at one time sell Armourers drawings of many british weapons including the No4. I bought a bunch, but that was a few years ago. They might still be available.
Failing that, go to the same source and order Small Arms Identification Series No2 (S.A.I.S No2) which has several pages of an illustrated parts breakdown with part numbers and for 10 bucks in green money, is well worth it.

(You may have to Email Skennerton about the armourer's drawing if it's not listed on the website)

John Sukey,

Thanks for the link, they have:

Armourer's Drawings, fold out work charts for .303 Short Magazine Lee- Enfield, Marks I, I*, I***, II Cd., III, IV Cd., & III*, .22 No.2, No.3, 1905-1945.

Still I never heard of any of thouse model of Enfields.

Maybe in a month I'll send him a email. Money is tight this month seeing as I've been out of a job for a long time (since college actually). :p

Armourer's drawings aren't blue prints. Better than nothing though. The blue prints/manufacturing drawings are long gone. Possibly in the Archives in Ottawa, but you won't find blue prints on the net or in somebody's collection of stuff.

I can't even begin to imagine the fun there will be to have when the full contents of most major countrie's national archives will be available on the 'net for all to see ...

ooooooh, I like the brass butt plate. Nice detailing on the clip as well. Looks like a no. 4 mk 1* to me. I might have to check my skennerton book to confirm. :) great job!

You'd be amazed what kind of stuff is hidden away in archives :D It's too bad LAC has not organized those old defense dept records. Maybe I can sell myself to them in two years based on that!

You guys may want to try digging a little more at LAC and see if you can find anything of value. I'm local and depending on what it is, I may be able to pull it up some time during the summer. Biggest problem is I work through the week and that's the only time you can call up material

Search page for the archives is here:

http://search-recherche.collectionscanada.ca/archives/search.jsp?Language=eng

It's a finicky system and not great with keywords, so use variations and other similar words to cast the widest net.
