Some of you may have seen when I got this Israeli Mauser. Very not matching, very much a shooter and in no way a collector.

People asked what the hell this was on the barrel...

Anyway, got it put together reasonably correct but with the timney it came with and a S&K scope mount. Old weaver scope that sat high.

Shot damn good with my varget 155gr loads. That's 5 at 100 yards.

But the cheek weld was almost non existent. Got a free sporter stock from EE and did this.

Cut the piece I wanted to use.

Took out the bulk of it with a 3/4 bit.

Lined er up and drilled some holes. 3/8 at the top to allow for filling with dowels.

Put it all together, nice cheek weld now. And appropriate looking. I'm sure you guys can do better with proper tools and a warm garage. Mine was unheated and most work was done with an exacto knife.

What do you think? Other than the bubba comments?

Good job on the cheek rest, having a good cheek weld without straining your neck will help improve your accuracy. I find that my K98 is a little awkward to get comfortable with, I may have to do this with my old girl.

Good for you!!! I have a Lee Enfield #4 Sussex sporter that I modified into a custom fitted shooter for me. I fabricated a scope mount, mounted a rail, and built a cheek rest, and while it may not be the prettiest rifle you ever saw, it is bar none, one of the most comfortable to shoot. Had to you done your work to a nice collectable, I'd be the first one to say you should have your pee pee smacked, but given the circumstances I think you're to be commended for tweaking your rifle up to your need and specifications. As the other gentleman said, NICE GROUP!!!!

Wow that scope sits way high! I'm going to do up a Garand style lace-up leather cheek piece for mine.
But I've a ready supply of scrap leather and not as much height to account for.

And yeah the colour sucks but it has so much wood glue and sawdust filling the holes and cracks there was no clear coat in this old girl's future.
It's now sporting ( punny right...sporter sporting...ok a tad lame) a Timney trigger as well as a trigger guard and floorplate off of a '44 Sauer. It's a scrubbed '14 Danzig with a WW2 eagle / swastika stamped bolt.
I'm fortunate enough to have a parts mauser:)
