Bought a sporterized Long branch No 4 a while back with the intention to convert it back to full military. I don't know how the hell I missed it but it was not till I got it home that I realised the bayonet lugs had been chopped off. The problem was that it had a very good two groove barrel even though it was chopped and that it would look ridiculous with full wood without at least something where the chopped off bit would have been, so I did this.

With my reloads the recoil was always on the light side, but now it is almost non existant. The only draw back is that it's louder from the safe end.

Just set screws, but I had to heat up the muzzle break in order to get it to expand so it would fit over the muzzle, it was tight anyway.

No4

I would have just took one of my No4 cut off pieces and had it threaded back on to the barrel. I have a number of ends in my parts that have been cut off No4 to sporterize them.

~Angel~ uses add-on muzzle brakes for a lot of her Lee-Enfield No.4 shoots.

It simply pulls over the muzzle and straps on the bayonet lug. You hand tighten the screw and you're good to go. She uses them on her No.4(T)'s and finds a recoil reduction of at least 50%. She's able to shoot for hours without tiring and makes a day out more enjoyable, although I suppose technically it's cheating as compared to shooting them the way they were issued. :D

Interesting, but what about the rest of the rifle?

Which rifle, mine or the one BadgerDog is talking about ?

If it's my one it's fine, in fact it's great, I even turned down an offer to get it rebarreled as it shoots so well the way it is. I used to think the two groove barrels were second rate, but I have changed my mind about this recently. I have bedded the action and floated the barrel and it will now shoot 1" groups with reloads that I previously thought were not very good. Here's a pic.
