NO. 4 Wood - Mk 1 vs. Mk2

Hi all,

I am wondering if there is a difference in the lower wood between No.4 Mk1 and Mk2 models; specifically any milling differences in the area near the trigger to accomodate the different trigger attachment point?

Or are they both interchangeable?

Is there an easy way to distinguish Mk1 from Mk2 wood?

The Mk2 forend (same for the Mk1/2 and Mk1/3 as well) has an open gap at the rear, through which a bolt goes from side to side. I'll try to find a pic that shows this in my photobucket account... They are not interchangeable, but some woodworking, depending on one's skill, can turn one into the other and vice versa. I did transform a Mk2 forend in a Mk1 once, I don't think it was worth the trouble...

Here's the only pic I found in my photobucket account that shows a bit what we're looking for. At the rear, you see the whole through which the bolt would go.

Note that this forend (which I was repairing for my own No4 Mk2) had already been previously transformed from a Mk1 forend to a Mk2; the back brace that was there before was removed, the spaces for it in the wood filled, and the hole drilled for the Mk2 bolt.

also you will have some problems with Mk1* Mk1/3 wood if you try to put it on the Mk1 or Mk2 reciever as there is no inletting for the bolt release.
