How do these 2 carbine compare....easy of handling..accuracy and recoil...i know the LE No.5 has a reputation with recoil..and not aided at all my its solid rubber butt pad...don't hear too much about the Soviet m44 carbine chambered in 7.62mm....any CGN's got both in there milsurp collection ?

Kicks about the same, with a steel buttplate. And handles by slapping it around. I don't have a JC but have fired a few of them ... Let's just say both involve pain after more than a few rounds.

Personally, I find the JC No. 5 recoil just fine. Certainly not soft, but I have fired approx 40 rds in a single go without any major problems.

Wuss :p :D

My M44 fits me like a glove, and I have fired 100's of rounds with nary a whimper. My JC cycles better (no 2x4 needed) and in my mind handles better for some obscure reason. I like them both. Can't judge the accuracy. While I can ring the 200 yd gong with my Mosin, my JC had the front sight replaced before I got her and was waaayyy too high. Just got the replacement and haven't installed it yet.

(E)

I have had both and they are about the same in recoil. The JC's I have had were more accurate due to the type of sights. The Mosin sights are too big for the gun, but it's also a very capable round. :DScoped Mosin's are deadly accurate and will take big game no problem.
I have tipped over a few moose with the 303 using big heavy bullets. I have some 216 grain .311 diameter Norma's waiting to go into my incoming JC. I will be using it as backup on my sons first hunt.....

Of the two the M-44 mosin can kick a lot harder that the jungle carbine. This is because the mosin has a much stronger action and can be loaded to greater pressures. They can both kick as soft as you want them to kick, just load accordingly. I would say the mosin is by far the better rifle, it has a better action, it has a sturdy one piece stock, it has a fully floating barrel. And last but not least it is half the price.:)

I shot my #5 this weekend, around 20 rounds, and I have a bruise on my shoulder from it. It's no worse than my Marlin 1894 in .44mag (no recoil pad)that I used to have though. I had a #4 sporter with a recoil pad that I could shoot all day long with no discomfort.

BTW, regarding the post above, the #5 has a fully floating barrel.

I had both. I have only the #5 now.

The recoil is not an issue with the JC #5, but with heavy ball the 44 and it's steel butt plate can leave your shoulder a bit sore.

The M44 is built to work under far worse conditions then the JC, and be operated by a more diverse army.

Personally I like the M44 Carbine better.
Besides which it comes with a handy fold out Bear defence bayonet. :D

I no longer have a MK5 but I do have 2 Mosin M44's still. I despised the narrow hard rubber pad on my Mk5 and got rid of it years ago. One of my M44's is still packed in cosmoline and is brand new, never issued and stored away as a collector item, the other I sporterized for my short and handy beater deer rifle, turned the bolt handle down and trimmed all excess weight. It kicks like a mule using heavy ball now due to losing the extra weight, but when I load my own I use 120's and it is a joy to shoot. I find the Mosin MUCH more accurate than my MK5 and a few friends as well. As the above poster commented, the bolt is not as easy to operate but once you use a Mosin enough, it becomes second nature and is fast enough! I LOVE the factory trigger pull on my M44 too. Not sure if it is just a lucky one to be so excellent or not as these are the only Mosin Nagants I have ever owned. When I go for a days hard hunt in thick woods, this is always the gun I carry. I used to shoot it a lot at the range as well but rarely go target shooting anymore. Interesting thread. Love to hear everyones differing opinions on those two guns.

I had both and shot them both fairly extensively. For a couple of years, the #5 was my main moose hunting gun. I my opinion, I prefer the M-44. It has a more powerful round and a stronger action, and just seems to handle better for me, and from my own experience is more accurate; the #5 has a problem with loosing zero. Recoil is about the same. I eventually got rid of the #5, but I still have the M-44.

By the way, If you really want to impress your buddies, try firing the M-44 when it's almost dark. There's about a 3 foot length of flame comes out the barrel that will scare the crap out of them if they're not used to it.

i think the #5 handles better, but i find it's kick much worse than the M44.

for accuracy, once i shimmed the foreend of the #5, i think it beats the M44, however, this is probably due to the sights more than anything.

;)How about a shower towel duct taped to the M-44...?

It will ride like a cheap Cadilliac...a 1984 new yorker, just like the gun, ahahahhaha.

I never had mosin but two JC's that recently went through my hands were excellent shooters, I grouped 1.5-1.75"x100yds both with factory load and iron sights consistently. Report on JC is way better than, say, other Enfields in 303 probably due to flash hider like above mentioned. Recoil is just a matter of getting used to it, or maybe fitting some kind of slip-on recoil pad. I ended up owning one of those and happy like a clam.

Ha Ha Try 416 Rigby...

Jungle Carbine completely dominates over the Mosin Nagant.

10 rd, removable mag, 45 rd / min fire rate with stripper clips...
