I just acquired a No.5 Mk1 "Jungle Carbine". It has stamped on the left side of the receiver, in the usual place: 5/46 and faintly W61, as well as ROF(F). the bolt also has W61 stamped on it. It has a hollowed out bolt, brass butt plate.

Are the ROF(F) more or less common than the M47C BSA? Oddly, this one came with a magazine for a .22, and the magazine is set up as such, along with a stamp ".22" on the side. Any opinions are welcome. Should I just make a lampstand out of this one? :p

Thanks in advance.

Edit: The rifle is not a .22. The magazine is for a .22.

ROF(F) Royal Ordnance Factory, (F) Fazakerley is the factory. 5/46 is the month and year made, so May 1946. W61 could be a rack number from a foreign country, Perhaps India? The side should have a serial number on it
under the ROF(F) 5/46, something like UF1234 electro penciled, the bolt should be electro penciled on the back of the bolt handle. The hollowed out bolt is parts of the light-ing (reduce weight) of the rifle in general. It will have
cuts under the rear sight and on the barrel at the chamber.

Sounds like the No.5 buttstock was replaced with one from a No.4, probably by an owner who found the No.5's length of pull too short.

That is my thought, too. Either that or it was Churchill's personal rifle and he preferred a brass butt plate. He had other things that were brass.....:p

Sounds like it may have been made by Bubba with the No. 4 butt stock. Bubba put a No. 7 Mag in it. Takes a regular No. 4 Rifle mag. Marstar has used slightly rusted(no big deal. Oil and 0000 steel wool) No. 4 mags at $55 each. Or 10 BNIB mags at $625. Five for $350.
