No bullet hole buck

Back when I was in Moose Jaw I was out in the hills South West of there, and came over a rise to jump up a herd of WT Does. I picked the biggest looking one, a front-on shot, lined up and fired. total time, maybe six or eight seconds. Maybe a bit less... All hell broke loose, deer running everywhere, I just stood there trying to see if I had results. Looked like a no. Then this doe comes wobbling out of the brush, and collapses, about 20 yards in front of me.

Never did figure out where I actually hit her. No internal mess, no bullet or hole. No blood visible. Just meat. Left head and guts in the hills for those that could use the nutrition. Never did figure out why or how that one became mine. Mind, it was -25c or so, wasn't really gonna spend a lot of time trying to sort out more than I needed to...

Mystery deer. But she WAS good eats! :D

I shot a buck this year that had no noticeable hole. This was on a drive with a moving deer, the second shot I saw the deer react and slow down a bit, the third shot his back end dropped, I thought I hit the spine, then missed with another shot. He went down, head came back up and then down for the count. When I walked up to him my third shot was low and took out the back knees, not the spine, (shotgun zone, smoothbore, running). I opened up the deer to gut it and the cavity was full of blood but we could not find a single hole in the hide, did not make any sense. It was not until 4 days later when we skinned him out that I noticed a 1/4in slit between the ribs, seems like I hit a tree and blasted either a chunk of branch or lead shrapnel into the chest, that is what put it down.

No the gun was not off, a couple days later I smoked a doe exactly where I aimed.

Weird things happen

Bullet likely just grazed the skull and knocked the animal out. If you wouldn't have cut it's throat it likely would have come to and ran off. My brother hit a doe on the top of the head. The only evidence of a hit was a track grazed into the hide on the top of the skull. Same thing if he hadn't cut it's throat it likely would have come to and run off.
