No chamber dimensions on a 6x50 Warner - what to do?

I inherited a Rem 788 chambered in a 6mm wildcat based on the 30 Remington. It is like a skinny .243 with a sharper shoulder and necked to 6mm. That's OK for one barrel, but I have two more blanks and what's the point of a rifle that can't be duplicated?

I have hundreds of cases, both fired .30 Rem, some fire in the new chamber, and some fireformed. From the packaging on the RCBS dies, I established some dates and wrote to RCBS. Their response was polite and honest - sorry, we don't have any drawings. They suggested casting the chamber.

Hmmm? I've poured Cerrosafe into chambers for rough dimensions, but never for anything as specific as a shoulder angle or placement. I could cast the die, and use the case mouth as the length datum. Or, is there another way to replicate the shape of the chamber reamer?

Sounds like "someone" had a special "one off" reamer made up and the person you inherited the rifle from, liked it enough to have a rifle built using it.

You could try to find out who has the reamer, or as mentioned, the cerrosafe cast, along with some fireformed cases, could be sent to a reamer manufacturer.

If you can find out which reamer manufacturer made the original reamer, they usually keep copies of the design on file.

The other thing to contemplate is how much you intend to shoot this rifle.

I wonder if it could be a rimless version of the 6mm-30 American [the 30 American was a Federal headstamped 30-30 case with small primer pockets meant for re-shaping & necking down to various sizes suitable for BR shooting, when PPC brass was unobtainable & everyone and their dog was trying to come up with a cartridge to beat the 6ppc]?

Or, a rimless version of the 6mm Donaldson Wasp Long / 6SM [Seely Masker].

Remember that the only difference between .30 Remington brass & .30 W.C.F. brass is the rim. The rest of the dimensions are the same.

This project dates from 1976, and is clearly based on the 30 Remington. I see the 30-30 case is 51 or 52mm long. If anything this case is 49 or 50mm length.

Warner, as in Al Warner? Met him at the DCRA Nationals at Connaught, maker of target rifle sights. www.warner-tool.com Might be able to get information from there.
A different Warner, but a good intuition! When Al Warner was married at Connaught, I was part of an arch of cleaning rods he and his bride paraded under. (( Remember my screen name is not my real name ..... ))
