SUDBURY - An investigation into the shooting of a white cow moose in northern Ontario last fall has been closed and officials say no charges will be laid.
It was news that outraged people across the country when someone shot and harvested a rare and protected animal known as a 'spirit moose.

Authorities said someone harvested two moose during the week of Oct. 26, 2020, on Nova Road near Kilometer 18, east of Foleyet. Both were found in a forestry cut, the head of the white moose was left behind,
The decision to not lay charges was made by the Ontario Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources, and Forestry based on Section 35 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
"The (ministry) investigation determined that the moose was harvested lawfully by an individual who was exercising their harvesting rights within their recognized traditional territory," Jolanta Kowalski, a ministry spokesperson told CTV News in an email.

Now isn't that a little awkward !?

so the spirit moose was harvested by a native, only reason for investigation was to see if it was a non native.

Isn't that institutional discrimination based on ethnicity?
I'm native to Canada, everyone gotta eat. Like I should be allowed to hunt raccoons in Etobicoke where I grew up.
(wasnt actually me who harvested the precious white moose.)

Sadly, when the stewards of the land do the shooting the liberal cryholes become silent. If the moose had been harvested by a non-native, the howling would be deafening.

Kind off odd that a native would shoot a "spirit animal". It's supposed to be sacred to them, and all that...

Spirit moose or Joe Blow moose, allowing people to hunt without any restriction can only have one result. We've allowed ourselves to become totally Stupid.

Grizz

Hahah I thought the stewards of the land protect these animals? Oh wait, they shoot absolutely anything they can from the comfort of their front seats under million candle pit lamps.

I’d bet the moose was shot at night and at least 1/4 of the edible portions wasted.

Maybe this will open folks eyes that a certain group of people doesn’t give a #### about the animals and only themselves.

Like the sacred trees cut down and used for roadblocks by the golf course in Oka?

If we want to end all of this, we need to stop using words like 'us' vs 'them'. There is only one species of humans on this planet for a very long time. This species spread out around the globe thousands of years ago and WE are all related to the same folks who arrived here initially. DNA proves it. Archeology/science proves it. Just a matter of time before society catches up and realize how ridiculous the categorization of people is. The more categories society creates, the more discriminatory it gets. Not rocket science!

Segregation and division keeps the masses distracted by the real villains. Also creates false issues to gain votes.
The entire hunting rules are a huge form of systemic/systematic racism.

That's what I was thinking as well........

These moose should not be protected. The moose herd in Ontario is recognized to be having issues, a gene that negatively effects mortality should be eliminated, not saved.

If the natives did not give a white moose some elevated status they probably would have disappeared long ago. So now he can make a decision based on his traditional rights and put it in the freezer. Pretty soon they will be all gone an problem solved .

Not sure how it works in that area. In some parts of the country, that shooter now gets to, or has had to, deal with some old men or old women of that community - the telling of that story might not be finished yet...
