No deer but got a coyote....
Got to the farm with about 45 minutes of legal light left. Today's tactic was to still hunt the bush hoping to spot a deer before it entered the bean field. Once I entered the bush I soon realized that there was little to no wind creating a real quiet forest. It became pretty clear that still hunting wasn't going to work for me as I was making too much noise. So I decide to change tactics and just move to an area that has somewhat of a clearing in the bush. So I am basically about 40 yds in from the bean field hoping to hear or see a deer before they spot me.
After about 15 minutes or so just standing there waiting and listening, I spot something moving ahead of me going from my left to right. At first I thought it was a deer but soon realized it was a coyote. I quickly lost sight of it, so while standing there with a big tree at my back breaking out my outline I start to lip squeak. It didn't take long to get this coyote and another (2 coyotes) to come and investigate. Lots of leaves in the bush and since it was already getting dark in the bush visibility wasn't the greatest. I concentrated on the coyote that offered me the best view, when he got to about 25 yds he stopped to look around. I had the cross-hairs on him and took the shot. He fell right there, no tracking required at all.
It looks like the arrow went into his chest and out of his side. A good night out...
As cool as this was, I find calling them in with a rifle in my hand a lot more fun
