So egw makes dovetail plates for reddot optics for pistols. Is there anyone currently making something like this for rifles?
I have a m96 Husqvarna chambered in 9.3x62 and I'm having troubles seeing the factory open sights. I'm not sure I want to send it out to be drilled and tapped for a scope mount. I'd like to keep it light and trim
Would this be a viable option to mount a micro red dot on a plate where the rear sight is dovetailed in?
If so could the rear blade be ground smooth and a plate be silver soldiered on keeping the optic low to the bore?
I'm not a metalsmith so I'd need to have someone do the work

there used to be a market for short scope rails or mounts that replaced the rear sights of many military surplus rifles, but i haven't really seen anything like that in years. in theory you could take a dove tail slot blank, drill it and tap it and attach a short piece of rail, say with a pair of screws side by side in the dove tail stock material. Cooey had a similar set up with the dovetail slots being tapped for their rear sights to attach to. Other than that, you got any friends with a milling machine or CNC that could manufacture a rear base. Likely it would need to be a light optic depending on the depth and size of the rear sight slot, so that recoil isn't a factor and the weight of the optic tears it out? holds on pistols so in theory should work for your application. i am just kind of worst case scenario here for consideration or input. maybe someone here has done what you are thinking before?
