I obtained an SKS (Norinco) two years ago. Was on a special sale deal new in box including sling, oiler etc. Due to being exceptionally busy I had not had a chance to wring it out on the range.

Well today was going to be the day so I stripped it down to clean it and discovered the gas piston spring was missing. I wonder what would have happened if I'd just loaded up and fired?:eek::eek:

There is no spring that goes with the main piston which is in the gas tube. There IS a spring that should be with the piston extention, which goes thru the rear sight block.

As for what would have happened ? Probably not much except that your rifle <may> end up being single shot. I suspect it wouldn't have mattered at all since that spring doesn't do anything that the slap of the bolt carrier being pushed forward by the recoil spring already does.

Thanks for the info...there was no manual with the rifle when I got it so I was going by some info downloaded off the internet. It indicated that there
was a spring on the gas piston.

I appreciate the info from the folks here. :D:D
