No headstamp 9mm

I picked up a few rounds of 9mm that were completely "clean". They have brass cases with steel jacket bullet. Nothing on the base headstamp.

Any ideas as to manufacturer, time period, etc???

I've heard a few stories, but nothing that I can substanciate.

The world of ammo collecting is still a sideline for me, any help?:)
 
Could be what is called sanitized ammunition no marking on the case as to origin of country I heard that this was quite popular during the 60's and early 70's
 
9x19mm?

I heard somewhere that a Can. company (DC or IVI????) made some sterile ammo for secret ops for the Yanks a while back.

Ask CanAm. If he doesnt know, no one does.

There are several that have been made by various makers over the year, though the steel jacketed one escapes my memory (since 9mm ain't not my thing). The issue has come up in the past on the IAAs forum, but its up to you to search it :)

Here is a pic of the 5 rounds of no headstamp ammo. The case is brass and the bullet is steel jacket.

They are the 5 on the bottom row, with the 2 on the right, bullet up. A bit dirty, but as you can see, clean bottom:D .

Didn't take any side pics of the rounds, but they have the same profile as any other regular 9mm round. Nothing out of the ordinary.

Sorry I don't know what "cu-ni" is?

I took a magnet to the bullets and they were picked up, so I am assuming that they are a steel jacket, but I guess they could have a steel core?? I've got some 1920's dated Canadian 303 ammo that looks the same as these bullets (steel) however the magnet doesn't grab them. Is that cu-ni ???
 
Koldt...need a pic of the extractor groove profile to be sure, after all, close only counts in handgrenades and horseshoes :D
 
Here's a side shot of the Costco No-Name ammo on the left. German ww2 in the middle and CDN DA on right.

All looks fairly consistent/normal to moi. Is there something else I am missing:confused:

Actually when you look at rounds near the rim, or the extraction groove you will often notice quite a few differences, bevels, sharp edges, etc. It can tell alot about a round, or the maker in many cases, besides obvious things like crimp styles, or materials.
The round in question is a known round, but is still classed as an unknown for certain in the cartridge collecting world, though it is believed to be Austrian made.
 
OK, so we've got it narrowed down to a known, unknown, possibly Austrian round.

Guess that's more than what I started with. Wish I had a few more rounds to shoot and chrono, but this is all I got.

I'll save 'em for my black op missions.:D

Sooner or later one of the 9mm gurus might take the time to track it down, but the conclusion right now is it was most likely an order for some other company, ie Company X having Company Y make a run for them, or a small company who wanted a house brand, but not the cost of a headstamp.
Lots of un-marked rounds have been made, tracking them all down takes time... regretably
