..... if I don't get my RPAL renewed in time!

I applied for a new RPAL in April, as mine expires in September..... I have called and they did get my app, but still no word on when it will be done.

Now I'm starting to get twitchy... If it doesn't come by hunting season I guess I'm SOL? It's still a long ways away yet, but they're making me nervous - why does it take 3 months to get a renewal?

I'll probably get all the draws I put in for but no license.

Rant off.... this is what you get for posting before the first coffee of the day......

I sent my renewal in early March got it the first of June (Was due in Oct). And I even live in communist section of Kanada. According to the CFC website, the service standard is 45 days.

There are two options. Wait and wait or a friendly call to your local MP. That should/might speed things up. As waiting 3 months is double the "service standard" and a good basis for a complaint.

You can still go hunting, you just need to be "supervised" with a rifle. That means, you have to go with someone with a valid PAL and be under their "supervision". I had to do that with my Dad on one trip - he didn't like having to be 'supervised', so he got off his ass and put in for his PAL.:)

Besides, if you get some good draws, you won't have a problem finding someone to share your moose or elk.;)

Good luck.

I got mine 6 months early for this reason, it came in under 4 weeks. Mine IS NOT a legal opinion, but if you still had your old one and explained to any CO what's up. I'm sure you'll be fine. The ONLY time I've ever needed my PAL is a crappy tire and the like for .22 ammo!

my son applied for for his PAL when he turned 18 this Feb.hes still waiting to get his PAL.When he checks up on the web site it says cleared inital process he gets his application # and the date it was recieved which was 2008-03-08.I sent mine in for renewal at the same time and got my new one back in 3 weeks

I was without a PAL for a couple months last winter. Did it slow me down, not really. Even bought ammo at crappy tire a couple times with it.
Not condoning illegal activity, just saying that it works.

So lets say you shot that moose wityh a bow and arrow, or did a Gatehouse and took out that bear with a spear, or even managed to get a blue with a slingshot. Would your tag be any less valid?

PS. If you don't have any luck you can head over to Pavilion and I'll take you out, but only 1 bullet just like Barney Fife ( if it saves only 1 life ).

That's just cold :D (did you see the 'final' episode, where he let barney 'shoot' the bullet, and it turned out to be a dud? :D)

the only provinces that have "signed on" with the registry laws are ont and QC, the rest of the provinces have stated they will not enforce the registry, only the rcmp enforce it ,and the cfo of each province, so therefore that is why conservation does not ask for a valid pal/rpal. if you get stopped by the rcmp on the other hand , you better have a pal holder with you, because if you show your expired pal , you will lose your guns, if you have pal holder you can say the guns are loaned to him till your new one comes in :)

Get him to phone and ask to talk to your provincial CFO. I was in the same boat with my RPAL. Waited forever. Then phoned and talked with our CFO office. It was approved as I talked with them and put in the mail the next day.

I always thought that conservation officers are appointed to enforce the game/fish regulations only. On the other hand, police forces have the responsibility to enforce the Firearms Act (registrations/licenses, etc).

Police forces have in the past acted as COs in such places as Ontario because of man-power shortages.

I have been checked by both the police and conservation officers in hunting areas and all that the police wanted to see was my PAL and the gun registration. And when checked by COs, all they wanted to see was my hunting license, and to make sure I was hunting for what my license indicated.

The only problem with that is when your license expires so do your registration certificates, so technically you are in possession of unregistered firearms, no matter who you are with. Unless you legally transfer them before they expire. With the amnesty on you probably wouldn't be in trouble legally anyway if all you have is non restricteds, however an officer could still confiscate them until you get your renewal and reregister. At least that is my understanding of the amnesty.

I used to think that as well , but when my dad's pol expired, ,i got my pal, and that took 3 months, after i got the pal, they still transferred the gun from him to me , they told me that the rifle was still registered to him , even tho the pol expired , and that had we not transferred the rifle after about 6 months they would send a letter asking him to either renew or dispose of the gun thru what ever legal means he chose (ie turn in for destruction, or sell) they said ,, that till then even tho the pol had expired he still had the rifle registered to him, but that he was in violation of the law as well , go figure

As Trubluscrew recommended, call your local MP and request assisstance. I had the same problem and after asking my MP for help the situation was resolved within 24 hours. My MP was a Liberal at the time. Joe Commizi, now a conservative.I explained to him that his legislation made me a criminal, now I would like him to help me become a non criminal.

There's always the crossbow :D

Mines due end of December I guess I'd best get on that. Season will be over by then of course.:p

Seriously, I hope you get it resolved.
It would be a shame if you had to pay Bartell to sit with you while you hunted. :)
