Hey Guys;

So... My farmer friend called me this morning & said that he had captured pics of a nice buck on his property, from 8pm the night before!!!

Since we can party hunt here in Ontario, a little organizing found us sitting on stands hoping to get a chance to harvest this nice buck.

NOPE, it was not to be, we saw NOTHING despite knowing he had not left the dense willow brush & cedar swamp on the farm! Tracks in, NO tracks out. What frustrated us was the small amount of blowing snow that made it impossible to tell what was a fresh track & what was a new track.

Ah well, next year maybe! And without further adieu, here he is.

Cheers
Jay
P.S. The pics are not great, but in the cameras defense, it was covered in ice & STILL WORKING!!! I really like the Energizer Lithium batteries & Spypoint IR6 combination! I have pics from as cold as -22C.

I hear ya guys! I have to admit, I like being bested by a smart buck! NEVER saw him during daylight, ALL pics of him on the cameras were LATE at night & the 8 pm pics are the EARLIEST we captured him out!

Until next year! Hope he makes it through winter!

Cheers

I didn't connect today either. I've had a great season. Took a button buck in the ml season and a real nice 7pointer and a 1 antlered 3 point and a real big buck with my truck in july. I saw numerous big bucks but never had the right weapon with me at the time

The big ones at my area do the same thing, only movin at night.

Time and patience will pay off eventually.

x2....Shortly after dark they would move in and throughout the night in our area.
Its reassuring to know that the big ones ARE out there.
Trail cams are providing alot of nice pics these days. I really like the second picture when he is lifting his head up.....Nice

If I didn't have my camera pics I would have moved areas looking for the monsters, but they are there, and usually more of them around then you know.

Any of the members of a gang can fill the doe or a buck tag , it doesnt have to be the tag owner.

Great pic Superbrad !!

Thanks... and I agree with Kelly T... they are out there... took that pic dec 20th last year... coulda been sitting there with my x-bow.... but I wasn't already had 2 in the freezer.... he has been haunting the area for years... very very smart deer....

They are that big for a reason.

We shot at my white whale this year, we did a drive and I said to the young guy sitting in my watch to wait there for at least an hour after I passed. The bugger hangs up and has brass balls.

Sure enough I tromp threw the bush and about 45 minutes later, 3 shots. Go check on him he shot three times (new to hunting, new to shooting) and everytime he shot he turned 90 degrees. Must have heard the bullet maybe?

Anyway hunting is fun, love the pics and stories of the near misses and brushes with the "ghosts".

My last day (afternoon) bowhunting was Dec 29th. Didnt see anything until I walked out in the dark when a deer crossed my path maybe 50 yards ahead. Didnt wind me or even turn its head, just kept walking away. Where I hunt the deer dont seem to move until sunset. Maybe make a stand/blind deeper in the bush where they bed. Already lookng forward to next year.

Although here in Alberta we have the greatest diversity of big game in Canada, I enjoy hunting the elusive whitetail buck. They are the smartest of all big game and most of the time they win the game of hide and seek.
If old man winter is kind this year that buck will only grow bigger for next years hunt. Good Luck!
