I talked with Shane at Reliable Gun in Vancouver last week.

He informs me that due to endless importation hassles with the Remington 1100 tactical shotguns they will not be available in Canada anymore. :(

The shotguns come with extended mag tubes that have to be removed in the USA due to our 5 centerfire round limits.

They got them before, but no more. Anyone else heard anything about this?

Ummmmmmmmm, that doesn't sound right. You can buy Hatsans that hold 7+1 and there is no problem. There must be some other reason behind it.

My Mossy holds 8 x 2 3/4" rounds. Legal. Non-restricted.

Something is amiss here.....

The Remington 1100 is a semi-auto centre fire shotgun that is limited to the 5 rd magazine restriction.

The shot guns you are all refering to are pump operated and therefore not limited to 5 rds.

The 1100 needs an 18.5" or longer barrel to remain non-restricted as well.

Not in Canada, as long as the firearm company is the one that makes the barrel shorter, and not the average joe with a hacksaw, then you only have to worry about not going under an overall min length of 26".

My Norinco HP-9 is a non restricted firearm, and it has a 14"barrel. :)

Sounds like Remy or the distributor are talking out their asses. :rolleyes:

If it is Remy that is making this crap up then I say phuck'em, buy a Mossberg, or a Norinco instead. :evil:

I have one of these puppies, mine is classed as restricted with 18 inch factory barrel, in a lovely shade of OD Green.
So, once more time for clarity...semi-auto center fire shotgun is limited to 5 rnds AND restricted with under an 18.5 inch barrel. The non restricted version has a 22 inch barrel and no pistol grip...limited to 5 rnds. I think Ellwood Epps has a couple more in stock.

Definition of a Restricted Firearm

According to the Criminal Code, a restricted firearm is:

* a handgun that is not a prohibited firearm;
* a semi-automatic, centre-fire rifle or shotgun with a barrel length less than 470 mm (18.5 inches) that is not prohibited;
* a rifle or shotgun that can fire when its overall length is reduced by folding, telescoping or some other means to less than 660 mm (26 inches);
* any firearm prescribed as restricted (including some long guns).

OAL is to be 26" or longer regardless of action type. The barrel restriction of 18.5" applies to all semi auto centre fire rifles and shotguns. Manufacturer made or not, on a Remy 1100 <18.5" will become restricted.

I owned an 1100 Tactical. It's was Green, had an 18.5" or 20" barrel (I forget now) and said Tactical on the side. Otherwise there are no differences from it compared to a regular 1100.

I'll be $1 that it is due to the name of the model. We can't get a 'commercial resale' license for anything with the word 'tactical' in it. 'Tactical' means 'Non-Sporting', which means no leavie America for non LE/Gov end users. Just my guess. I'll leave the $1 on the table.

Ho well, I guess more people will be buying Fabarm SAT8 :rockOn:

Calum:

As was already mentioned, centre fire, semi-automatic, is limited to 5 rd magazine capacity by current firearm laws. The bolt action or pump action guns allow greater magazine capacity as they are not semi-automatic.

Barrel length will dictate weather or not it is restricted by being shorter or longer than 18.5".

The overall length must be greater than 26" or it will also be restricted regardless of barrel length. Typically, the 18.5" barrel will guarantee an overall length of 26" as most actions plus a pistol grip are longer than 7.5".

Since when did action type dictate OAL requirements?

Since a band of hold-up guys decided that M1 Carbines were the ideal thing for sticking up banks in Quebec; because of that, the LIEberals decided that the "easiest" thing to do would be to simply re-classify all semis with a barrel shorter than 18" as "restricted".

Not to stir the pot even more...but...why can we still buy 25 rnd clips for the 10/22 or even mag extensions for shotguns? The 10/22 is semi. I think there is something else to the story, especially since FABARMs are still avaliable!

Centerfire vs Rimfire. No mag limits on rimfires.

For the last time - you can use the mag extensions on the PUMP guns, not the semi autos (well, you could use the extensions as long as they are blocked to hold no more than five:rolleyes: ). Semi auto centre fire has different rules than bolt or pump or lever. Rimfire again has different rules.
