I was in the Ottawa location yesterday, to fingerf@#% some guns. I asked if they had any mossberg 935's. The fellow behind the counter informed that lebaron was no longer stocking any mossberg products of any kind. He said something like they had sold a 1000 products, and all but 10 were brought back for repairs.
Now I must say I have heard this fellow tells some tales. But the store definitely had no Mossbergs. I also noticed they had replaced the kershaw and benchmade blades for kabar and s&w (WTF?).
I only own a pistol grip 500 field that I bought for $250 new(ha). I have only put a 100 rounds through it and LOVE it. Two FTE because I over oiled her(trunkgun), and it was -15C.
Are Mossbergs really this sketchy? I really prefer mossberg pump shottys layout over 870's(ya ya, shut up). I may consider a 870 if Remington comes out with top o' receiver safety("where god intended to be"(sorry lady hand men)). So never.
I would like to hear any first hand problems people have had.
Thanks.

I prefer my Mossberg SG's for the same reason you do...eg location of the controls vs 870
I'm no expert as I've only owned 5 Mossberg and 2 870 pumps but I never had any functional issues with either brand.
I'm down to 2 SG's now and they're both Mossys.

That 14 incher is beautiful. I hope to rob a bank and pick one eventually(ha)!
However the Sturmabteilung edition mossbergs are a head scratcher. I guess when they are trying to round us up, it may give you a bit of leeway to be a fanboy.

I heard a similar story at the Mississauga Le Baron's also and it was echo'ed at one of the small independent local gun stores, where I live.

I have three Mossy shotguns and I've never had any problems with any of them The 500 is circa 1980ish--and I know the previous/original owner has never had any problems with it (father in law), the 930 is two years old and the 535 is a couple of months old.

As for round count
500-- I'm guessing between 1500-2000 over 30 years
930-- About 300
535-- 50-60 (some initial stove pipe's during the first 5 shots. But has never re-occured)

Heard the same at Ottawa LeBaron a while ago while inquiring about a rimfire, though no explanation was offered...just "we don't really carry Mossberg any more"

That said, my dad's 1970s Mossberg 500 is bulletproof and smooth as glass...

Sometimes when gun shops change distributors they drop brands because the new distributor doesn't carry that manufacturer. You never know if what they are telling you is correct or what the real reason is.

I went into one shop in the US and asked why they carried no Glocks. Sales guy says Glocks are "too dangerous" and have too many accidental discharges. Six months later, I go back into the same place and the cases are full of Glocks. Go figure, typical gun store bullsh*t.

BTW, I have 2 590's and one 930 and no problems here.
