No one does cosmo like the russians!

You may have heard this before, but wrap 'em in newspaper or paper towels (lots) and put in a black garbage bag. Tie it up. Put the bag in the hot sun for a couple of hours.

Cosmo will melt off and puddle in the paper and the bottom of the bag.

Repeat as necessary.
 
Give it 20-30 min to soak in low odour paint thinner or varsol and it'll be gone for the most part, boiling water will take care of he rest. I'd remove the plastics grips first though, I really like the smell of the stuff if truth be told.

It's a 46' but not all matching . I want to get an older one I hope someone else has a deal on.
 
Last time I cleaned a gun full of cosmo it was a refurbed SKS that I picked up at a local show.... I field stripped it, boiled the parts in a solution of water and sunlight dish soap, boiled again for a bit in just water to rinse, then dried and oiled it right away. Obviously the barreled action wouldn't fit in a pot on the stove, so I used a can of heavy duty foaming engine shampoo from Canadian Tire in the bathtub.

Not something you want to do when the wife is around, but it does the job, lol

I used simple green with hot water on an sks, all my metal parts and it was effortless. Stock was laminated and only needed to be wiped off.
