No Ren 700 anymore. No production.

Not a surprising outcome, considering that Remington was bought by a vulture capitalist firm back in 2007, seeing the decline in quality of their products.

It was only a matter of time.

I recently bought a Mossberg 500 Field pump shotgun - didn't even consider anything Remington - lots of good choices out there that are still American made (Ruger/Savage/Mossberg)

There are (and will continue to be) lots of excellent quality R700 clones out there for prospective rifle builders.

I just bought a few SPS models that were on a clearance sale so I could use them for hobby builds. I have been trying to get my hands on a couple of different 700s, chambered for different cartridges, but guys suddenly think that a beat to hell BDL is worth the price of a premium or custom rifle. Even if the Remington 700 disappears completely, there are still so many clones out there along with a variety of much nicer brands, straight off the shelf.

Lots of guys knock Remington for quality issues , but , I've owned several R700's in various calibers over the years and they've all been great . Zero issues with build quality or accuracy . I grabbed a R700 Milspec Gen 2 5R .308 just before they were gone and it's fantastic . I am a fussy , accuracy oriented shooter and I'd easily put it up against anything offered by Tikka , Savage or Howa . At the time of purchase , I compared it side by side to A Tikka CTR and the R700 was much nicer . Flawless cerakoting , solid stock ( not a cheap plastic throw away ), super smooth bolt , 100% bolt lug contact and it's shooting sub 1/2 MOA at 200M ( with handloads ). The only thing it needed was a trigger change ( as do most factory rifles ) . Out of the box , it will out shoot my Savage Elite Precision . Super glad I bought it .

Are there any true 700 clones our there, or just 700 footprint actions?
If you don't understand what makes a 700 the safest and strongest action available, then you don't really understand what a 700 action is.

Footprint mostly, rather then strict clones. A lot have Sako style extractors, for example. Yes, yes, 3 rings of steel.....

How many millions have been produced? I bet 95%+ are still around. If they happen to say Made in Turkey, Portugal, Canada or the USA I would still buy a new one.
