I currently have a 1916 lee-enfield no.1 mk3* with a 4x redfield scope attached right above the action. I was wanting to use stripper/charger clips to load the magazine, but as afar as I can tell with the scope over top of the action I will not be able to do that. If I'm wrong please let me know, as otherwise I like this set up.

From what I've seen of original stock scopes it is mounted on the left hand side though, and wondering whereabouts I could find left-hand mountings and if they would mount the redfield scope as well or are they propriotary to the original scope.

There's a scope already on your rifle? Just push the rounds down into the magazine with your fingers or load the mag out of the rifle, that's my advice. FWIW.
Can't imagine a hunting or target scenario where 10 rounds won't do it...:p

Looked into this a while back. No one makes historically accurate No1 MkIII scope mounts of any kind.

Well, someone makes repro (counterfeit) Whitehead mounts, so be carful out there ... :D

Here's one that almost bit a few folks ... ;)

Also, there's some questionable Alexander Martin mounts floating around now and then on eBay. ;)

Compare them side-by-side in above MKL entry....

Badger

Agreed, not for speed loading, more for putting less wear on the magazine as I have only 2 of them and they are much harder to find than stripper clips.

Also, thanks for the additional info Badger, to clarify, I know I don't have this collectors rifle, but the image of the scope was as close as I could find to matching my BSA manufactured 1916 no.1mk3*.

In the rest of your life, you wouldn't be able to wear out any part of your rifle...those suckers last!

The War Museum in Ottawa has a 1910 Ross sniper rifle on display with a low side mount as shown in one of the pages. I have some poor pictures of the rifle.

FWIW, if you just want a representative example, the 3X WM Malcolm scope and mounts from Leatherwood are a 90%+ accurate copy of the Winchester A5/Leatherwood scope and ring setup. You'd then just have to fab up some mounts.

Cantom, you got it spot on!;)

The rifle was issued with ONE magazine which was only to be removed for cleaning. An L1A1 or M16 this IS NOT.

for that matter One wonders just WHAT the people in the War office were thinking (or in this case NOT thinking) then they insisted that sniper rifles had to be charger loaded. It also had one other flaw. Armoured plates were sometimes issued for snipers. In order to accomadate the offset scope, the hole in the plate had to be much larger, inviting entrance of an 8mm bullet.

And I simply can't imagine why a sniper would need to revert to "10 rounds rapid fire"
