Found this one while doing a trade; noticed all the markings and felt intrigued.
Some of the marks I was intrigued by and have come up with meanings on search (hoping for verification):
- HVSC is for High Velocity Small Cone, ie. the .303 round
- 3 M.D. represents the 3rd Military District of Victoria
- shield w/ ACP marks means it is an early Lithgow
- BA signifies it came from the Rifle Factory No. 2, Bathurst factory (I am unsure about that "P" beside the BA though)
- OA on the butt plate is from the Rifle Factory No. 3, Orange
Now with that said... theres a few markings I am still scratching my head on;
- The scriptive "R" on the Nock's form
- "M" on the bolt
- multiple serial numbers; 2 receiver, 2 on barrel (3 different ones total, 1 of which matches throughout)
- "P" on the bolt beside BA
- lots of roman numerals (IX, VIII I, II, III all with the 7-point star with A in the middle stamped above them)
- Barrel is marked 1917, despite the wrist being marked 1915
Unfortunately it doesnt have the mag cut off plate, but I would like to try and track one down and replace it as there is no indications of it being marked with a * for its removal (perhaps bubba did it?)
The fact that it came with the rear handguard as well was a bonus, and the light coloured wood is beautiful IMO. A shame the full stock has been cut short, and no front hand guard however.
