NO4 308 feed

have a no 4 with a 308 barrel it would not feed or eject. so i got a 308 mag.
and extractor but when i try to close the bolt the extractor jams on shell rim.
also the mag. doesnt sit high enough for the bolt to pick up a shell.
does the recever have to machined or mag.

Yes the receiver normally needs a small amout of machining to make the 308 mags work properly but not always.

Is the extractor clearing the barrel breech? If it is jamming in the extractor cut, the barrel may need to be removed and the notch fitted to the extractor.
L42 magazine? As HeadDamage has mentionned it may be necessary to open out the magazine cut toward the front end. I've seen a diagram somewhere that gives the necessary dimensions.

UK Guns review, sadly out of print now did a feature on making the target No.4 conversions work with the magazines as mags rather than as feed platforms! It did involve a little machining at the front end!
