Is the bayonet lug on a No4 barrel integeral or is it a pressed on sleeve simliar to the flash hider on a No5? Reason I ask is I saw a No4 at a gunshow today that had a No1 rear sight bed while still having a No4 front sight and the No4 milled micrometer sight. Nearest I can figure is someone put it on to mount a scout scope. Is it possible to slide the No1 sight base past the lugs? Just something that enquiring minds want to know.

A No. 4 barrel is larger in diameter than that of a SMLE in the area where the rear sight would sit. Perhaps only the top portion on the sight base had been fitted. The bayonet and front sight mounting lugs are integral to the No. 4 barrel.

sounds like they just attached the top part of the sight base, scout rifle like of scope mount, :(

and then when that didn't work, they went out and found a Parker Hale rear site. (that someone probably took off a perfectly good target rifle)

silly, the rear sight is worth more then the bubba
