Picked up a butt at a gun show. Its stamped with what appears to be a "B" in a circle Or maybe a 6 or 8 with 4 dots stamped in it at the wrist. Whats that all mean? Hard to tell the number/lettering but the 4 dots are a clear stamping.

Length are usually stamped on the top rear part of the buttstock. B for bantam, S for a short, N for normal and L for a long one. The normal length stocks are rarely stamped thou. The lengths are 12 3/4" (Long), 12 1/4" (Normal), 11 3/4" (Short) and 11 1/4" (Bantam). The marking you are describing is at the wrist, so it may be an inspector mark. Maybe a LB mark or a crown? A picture will help for sure.
