I walked past it maybe four or more times thinking its a deactivated firearm I got talking over a m1 receiver, bolt and trigger group for 500 then the vender showed me a m1 for 1800. Good guy really so I asked him about this.....thing he said some armourer made it from a Enfield, m1919 barrel and a pu scope base. I wanted it right there and then but I said no more guns ( got a new versamax sportsman at work for 700 earlier) ....20min later I broke down and bought it for 500.

Neat idea but is that welding on the action body a good idea? I mean that part of the receiver is a stressed component in a rear locking Lee Enfield.

The receivers are spot hardened in the locking abutment areas. Don't know how far the heat ran, or if the receiver is compromised.
Quite the project: Browning barrel, PU mount, aftermarket magazine, SMLE butt, SMLE? or improvised safety spring, SMLE safety. Is that a SMLE cocking piece?
I assume that it is .308?

Haven't taken it apart yet so I don't know if it's a original safety or not but it works. The cocking piece again don't know. The bolt head looks home made but the smith I took it to said its safe to fire.

And sort of the guy said it's chambered for 7.62x51

Want to find a way to fix a front site to it as still has the rear ones.

I'll take some more photos when I get home.

A front sight could be installed by drilling and tapping for a base, or by installing a band. The muzzle diameter is large, so D&T might be the easiest.

Take the bolt out, see if the head will turn in further.
When in the proper position, the threads do not take the load when the rifle is fired.

UPDATE...

Will not chamber 147gr norinco 7.62nato......Will chamber 180gr sako hammerheads... Put a 0.3 hole at 100yds ...only had the one round on me.... got to get some more sako.
