G'day gents

I recently stumbled across a lee enfield flip up sight (mk1) WITHOUT the peep aperture at the base. The seller and myself both thought it was just weird.

I did a little sleuthing and I believe it's the kind they stuck on the sniper rifles to clear the scope.

I can't see it being terribly useful on a rifle without a scope but do you guys think it's worth anything? I may snap it up and pass it on to someone who can use it.

I don't have a good pic but it is identical to the mk1 singer

but the base is perfectly smooth.

Smooth and refinished to black would be appropriate. Not that many were made, and not much reason for one to be dismounted. Interesting find!

The battle sight aperture on the No. 4 sniper rifles was milled off, leaving the sight base flat but still providing emergency ladder type sights.

I seen several of these for sale both Canadian and Brit where the battle aperature was removed for various reasons. If genuine Canadian it would be marked with a "Maltese cross" in the upper left hand corner. If not it's a blog standard MK1 micrometer sight with the battle aperature removed. If this were the case it's of little value. Conversely if it's got the markings on it then you've struck gold! Ron
