Hi all,

I've read all kind of good things about the S&K no smith scope mounts, but does anyone have any experiance with some of the other brands. I've done some googling and come up with these

Cad-Technik no-drill mount. Avaliable from Brownells I like how you can still use irons with this, but I've read that it sits quite high.

Addley Precision Inc. Smithless Scope Mount 2nd Generation (These guys are located in Midland Ont. Nice to support Canadians)

Armalon Enfield No.4 scope mount This is avaliable through Bdl Limited, but is is $189.

And the good ol' home made "Indestructible Scope Mount" (this one beaks the 'no smith' rules though)

I have a couple of Cad-Techniks and have used them on a No.5 and several No.4s. Mine work as advertised. I like the idea of being able to easily take the scope off with the upper mount to use the iron sights (though I have never found it necessary) and when you put it back on the zero hasn't changed. In reality what I have found useful with this feature is it allows me to lift the rear sight to get the bolt out for cleaning.

You read right, it does put the scope quite high up. I've used a Beartooth comb-raising kit, a No.4(T) sniper replica cheekpiece, and replacement target-style buttstock (bought second hand, unknown provenance, suggested to be British civilian aftermarket item) to address this on various rifles and am satisfied with results. None of these mounts are perfect, but most work (stay put and hold zero) and you just have to choose what you are willing to do without, e.g. for me, keeping the iron sights is a big deal.

B-Square makes a no-smithing mount for the Number 4/5 rifles. It's not my irst choice, but it is cheaper than the S&K, which I believe to be more solid.

Also, GAIRLOCHIAN, on this forum, makes a no-smith Number 4/5 mount. Use the SEARCH function: there was a solid review on it in this forum, some months back. It is inexpensive and it works. It is also VERY low to the Rifle so, if you have a monster scope, you will need HIGH rings for it. Rings are separate and standard; he makes the MOUNT but you supply your own Rings.

Hope this helps.
