Found a no4 in full dress at a local shop today perfect metal and 2 dings in the buttstock with matching numbers, but where the arsenal markings would be on the bolt side it was blank and the left side was dated 1943? Is this normal could they have rubbed off?

Number 4's were usually marked on the left flat on the receiver, and Some number 4's were marked on the left side, on the butt stock socket. Does it say anything their?

Butt stock socket left side had year right side was the only worn looking metal with no signs of a faint arsenal embossing. Is this thing legit, they're asking $575? How easily does the upper rear wood come off to see markings

On the left-hand side of the Body (what the Americans would call the "left receiver rail") look for faint electro-pencil markings.

Serial number also can tell you a lot. XXL###X is Long Branch, XXC###X is Savage.

M47C is BSA. They ran 3 plants, only one of their own. ROF(F) is Fazakerley, ROF(M) is Maltby. British rifles tend to be the poorest-marked and often have been refurbed to the point of almost removing markings.

Still, sounds like a nice toy. Are you going for it?

If its still there on payday I dont think Im getting new snow tires! Still has an original beige sling to boot. Need to find a bayonet to hang her on the living room wall

That's the rifle at A&C Sports on the rack in Kelowna. It is all correct and comes with a very decent bayonet. Didn't see a sling but they might have that as well.

The price is fair and if you dicker with them they might be willing to absorb the taxes for cash sales.
