Hi,
This is my first post in the milsurp forum so excuse my ignorance. I would like to know how hard it is to find replacement wood for a No4. My dad is giving me his longbranch No4 and it has had the original stock "bubba'd" (not by my dada). the rear stock and butt plate are good i would just need front wood. How hard is it to find and about how much would it cost me. The rifle is all original other than the wood and I woud like to "save It"

thanks in advance
Andy

Cost depends on how quickly you want to do it. Collector's Source has complete stocks, including the butt stock for $175. Marstar is stitting on a big shipment of wood from Europe and will likey be cheaper if/when they get them here. It may take you a little longer to source out the "correct" Long Branch or Savage wood. If I were you, I'd wait for Marstar's wood. Also, TradeEx has some spares in stock

You will need more than just the stock. You will also need correct metal parts to go with it. Might just be cheaper in the long run to buy a complete rifle and switch out the parts. Resurection of these old girls can sometimes be cost prohibitive as the parts can be worth as much as the complete rifles. Then, there is the factor of surface wear. You will want a stock that pretty much matches the finish of the rifle to be refurbed.

It goes on and on.

Restoration is a very rewarding undertaking. If you have a keep sake and want to restore it to its former glory go for it. Best to post a picture of what you have and start with a parts list and develop a budget. LB (Long Branch) is by far the most desireable Enfield collected in Canada. It's very built and generally a great shooter. Establish your budget. You can make it a shooter by putting on non matching wood like sold by a number of Vendors.....I would encourge you to spent a bit more and put on LB parts. Be patient and parts will come your way...go to the Gunshows or advertise here. Ron

All Long Branch wood is stamped "LB" with the inspectors number below...for example "LB/32" being a common one. Also has "C" broad arrow. Long branch wood can be walnut, birch or maple.
