The bolt head jumps out of the track on one of my longbranch projects.Ive tried a couple of different heads but they seem to jump out of the track and bind up.Is there a fix for this or is it a DP?Dave

Is the mouth of the track chipped on either side? This can sometimes cause the bolt head to pop out. If it is chipped I have no idea if that can be fixed.

Stone each end of the bolt head slot that rides in the track. Just cut the corner so that if the bolthead is not fully down it has a little taper to help it through the break in the track.

Stone any burring on the track too.

The Brits used the forward notch as a 'design fault' to sort out LB No.4 (T) rifles after the end of the war.

AIR, Peter Laidler posted some armourer's fix for chipped notches on the old Culver Shooting Pages Lee Enfield forum. It involved smoothing and eventually scrapping the receiver.

Scrapping entire receivers is a bit on the drastic side. I think I would be a little more inclined to talk with a friend who justhappens to have a MIG welder: weld up the tiny bit where things are too loose, smooth out with a needle file and a Dremel tool.

You NEED 1/64 of an ounce more metal there. No point scrapping a 2-pound Body over 1/64 of an ounce.

Has anybody actually successfully repaired a bolt track notch by welding? I can see potential problems with heat treating doing this.

Hmm, I kind of like that idea. I mean it just needs a wee bit of metal, and the heated zone would be minimal... Interesting concept.
