I have a No5 that has some stampings on the bolt cocking piece - I dont seem to have the permission(I guess forum rules) to upload an attachment, but can send along via PM if it would help.

Hoping that someone give some info on the meaning of the stamping - the stamping is 'M47/C. 2 1958'. The rifle is a No5 manufacturer at ROF in 09/44.

Appreciated for the help.

The 2 could mean anything. The 1956 is very likely a date. And, we've answered the factory code. What is curious to me, I BSA was pretty well out of the gun business by then, leaving the job to Fazackerly.

The gun has a production date of 09/44, there isn't anything I can see to indicate a factory refurb and the bolt body serial matches the gun. I also thought that bolt pieces were a hit and miss when interchanging?

The help is much appreciated - my best thought is a early in life repair, but is it odd to have a minor piece of the gun stamped like this (the other 2 303s I have access to aren't marked like this).

That's exactly what stumps me. BSA and 1958 don't quite go together in my (somewhat uninformed and weak) brain

BSA was still making Centerfire Rifles into the 70s so having a military contact in the late 50s isn't to far of a stretch.

The Number two simply could be the month as in Feb, 1958

That would normally be rendered as 2/58, but I don't know if things were still normal in February 1958.
