Does it exist a reliable non gunsmithing scope base for a Lee Enfield NoI markIII* rifle? I don't want to hurt the value of the fullwood and matching number
rifle.
Thanks sharing your experience.

The S&K Insta-Mount for Lee-Enfield Number 1 Rifles will be your best bet. It is ALMOST a complete "no-gunsmithing" mount.

You have to assemble the mount to the metal, then remove a very small amount of wood from just UNDER the Chamber of the rifle. This does NOT show and the little hole can be filled later with Acra-Glas.

The mounts are expensive but they are worth it: very solid and they HOLD their zero.

Unsuccessful mounts for the SMLE are held in place by metal compression..... and get shaken loose during firing. The S&K mount is held by TENSION and does not have this problem.

You can get the mount either for standard Weaver-type rings or for the special S&K rings (expensive and not common). My own S&K mount uses the cheaper Weaver rings and it works fine.

Your local gun shop should be able to gt one in for you.

There was a thread in this forum quite recently about this mount. The new owner is quit pleased with his.

Hope this helps.

Yes, I just shot my SMLE last week for the first time with the S&K mount. It's solid as a rock.

Wood did need to be removed for the band at the front...but as Smellie said, it can be Acraglassed afterward if desired.

The other junk mounts that are out there are less worth bothering with.

And... well there's some guy in the EE who happens to have one for sale (I may be familiar with this particular individual)

;)
