Noisy M14 mags?

So I use my M14 for hunting. I usually put 5 rounds in the mag. If I lightly shake the mag in my hand there is no sound. Once I put it in the rifle, and slowly wobble the rifle, there is a sound of something banging on the metal of the mag. This is the same for the 20 and 5 round mags. I checked this in both of my M14s. One is stock and one is a bit tricked out. The sound isn't there if you only have one round in the mag.

Any thoughts?

Are you positive that this noise only happens when the mag is in the gun? I.e. that the gun can't make the noise on it's own?

@a###el. Only happens when the mag is in the gun.

@Polar Man. It happens when there is more than 1 round in the mag. I tried 1-5 and it was fine when there was only 1 round.

I'm going to test all of my mags. Confirm that I'm not crazy. :) It does make the same sound in 1 of my 20rd and 2 of my 5 rd mags though.

When the mag is out of the gun the mag spring pushes the rounds up with the top round against the mag lips and there is enough tension to keep the ammo in place. In the gun, with the bolt closed, the top round is pushed up against the bottom of the bolt.

Try it with the bolt locked back and see if it still does it.

I just tried this with mine and yes once you close the bolt if the next round is on the right side of the mag it does push down a bit and lets the next (left) round slap around inside the mag.
Must try this with all the mags and see if it is specific to one or two or the whole bunch.
