Non Firing SKS

Take the bolt off, and play with the disconnector to see if you can find a magic spot that actually lets the hammer fall properly.

If there is a magic spot at all, then modify the disconnector stick until the bolt pushes it to that spot properly.

Yes, there is a sweet spot with the disconnector that let's the hammer drop. Too little and it stops the trigger. Too much and the trigger goes all the way back without dropping the hammer.

kultz, the bolt had no trouble positioning the disconnector to allow the hammer to drop. The hammer just stops on it's way to the firing pin. Just don't know what or why yet.

Thanks for your help y'all.

Looks like I may have solved the problem. I took off the trigger group and reinstalled it, making sure the assembly was seated in properly. Here's a before picture:

And here's after I reseated the trigger assy. :

I didn't have to disassemble the trigger mechanism, which is a good thing as the spring was really stiff. I had to take the grips off the Tapco stock as it was in the way. Hopefully it was not the cause of my problem.

Final comments regarding this issue: Because the hand grip of the tapco stock was installed behind the trigger guard, it was not obvious that the assembly was not seated properly. It only dropped about 1/16" but that was enough to make the hammer positioned forward of the assembly to fall short of the pin.

While there was a loud click when I pulled the trigger, I detect a ping that was not there before, likely from the hammer coming in contact with the firing pin.

Hopefully others who encounter this issue in the future will spend less time debugging the problem. And hopefully I won't have encounter more issues on my next range visit.
