After reading up and seeing some disturbing images about the amount of lead in game meat, I'm hoping to find an alternative to lead for my moose hunt this fall. Anyone have luck with anything in .270? Am using a Ruger Mkii. I don't have a round made up for the gun yet, as I'm waiting to find the proper ring size for my scope, but have to get a hustle on as it's coming just around the bend.

Barnes is the easy choice if the criteria is non lead. Its damn near impossible to make a rifle shoot worse than minute of moose unless you think you should go heavy in a 270 then maybe minute of manhole cover hitting sideways is a viable option.

Never mind that most of the anti lead crap is anti hunters teaming up with anti-gunners with a smattering of copper bullet manufacturers donating money to pass laws for their own profits.

Nosler etip and hornady gmx are other options which might both be easier to source than barnes these days.

As a Nosler fan , when they released the Etip , i bought some 168gr to test against the 165gr Barnes TTSX in my 300wsm.

Even a minimum charge showed pressure signs on the primers with the Etip while the TTSX shows nothing.

Chronograph shows a definitive advantage to the TTSX. Nothing to do with the 3 gr difference.

Those grooves the TTSX have , help to lower friction . ( Helping with speed and pressure )

Precision was also better with the Barnes.

Never been impressed with the GMX accuracy.

The Barnes are popular because they are better bullets. Just stock them when they are available.

With lead and copper bullets , shoot through the lungs. Nobody eat lungs.
