I have an AYA 10ga. 3.50" Magnum double and was considering going to Bismuth shot as I don't want to have to open up the chokes to shoot steel. Bismuth is fairly pricey but one of my shooting buddies was just over and he said I should consider going to Tungsten instead as it isn't as expensive but is soft enough that I wouldn't have to alter the chokes like I would have to with steel. Anyone know about that for sure? If that is true, how does the cost compare to Bismuth & where is it available? Are there any other viable alternatives?

Not just any tungsten load will do. It MUST be tungsten matrix. The various tungsten iron loads are just as hard as steel shot and present the same risk to a full choke or older gun. Tungsten matrix is available in most gun stores but it is expensive. The last time I checked on the same level as Bismuth.

Thanks guys. I think I'll, pardon the play on words, 'bite the bullet' and go Bismuth. I've previously contacted Ballistic Products Inc., made contact with their Canadian outlet in Dewinton AB and had discussions with a rep at the last gun show in Penticton. I have their a copy of their products catalog and their fifth edition on Handloading Bismuth Shot. Bismuth is the route I'll go but I just thought I'd inquire about alternatives before doing so. Thanks again guys, much appreciated.
