Anyone know where I can buy some "range-safe" 7.62x54R? I've been itching to shoot my MN at my range.
Thanks in advance…...

All the Prvi and S&B I've bought is totally non-magnetic. I have heard of different lots of S&B being magnetic though so I don't know if they all are as a rule. You're going to be looking at $30-40/20rnds though.
For non-corrosive (and non-magnetic but my range doesn't care about that) I reload brass cased for 7.62x54R. Both jacketed and cast bullets.

Locally in the GTA I don't know who sells it but several site sponsors do. SFRC has both listed in stock.

I don't know of any bulk/cheap (less than $1/round) 7.62x54R that isn't magnetic (bimetal jacketed or steel core).

I prefer reloads, but if you're not into that there are lots of other alternatives. LVE and MFS are pretty good shooting Mosin rounds, avalable in soft points for hunting or FMJ. There are also American makers of the same caliber.

Isn't the MFS stuff all bimetal jacketed? If johNTO's range uses the magnet test regardless of if it's bimetal jacketed or steel core, it'll still fail. Most of the soft-point hunting bullets I've seen from brands like MFS, Tula, and Wolf still use bimetal jackets even though they are lead-core soft-point hunting bullets.

I've seen pictures of Winchester 7.62x54R but I've never seen any in person.
I have seen the Hornady steel ammo on the shelf in stores which has a non-magnetic bullet but still has a steel case. Costs about as much as Prvi or S&B which has reloadable brass and seems easier to find. Even if you don't plan to reload, you can save the brass and possibly sell it to someone who does. Less common reloadable brass like 7.62x54R is worth quite a bit more than .223 or .308.

Thanks for the responses, folks! I'll be sure to bring a magnet when I go ammo shopping…..unfortunately, reloading is not one of my downtime activities (for now at least).
