I'm looking to buy something like the grizzly, but don't want to buy anything made by Norinco.

Without getting into big debates over why I wouldn't buy anything made by Norinco, can anyone suggest any other mag fed 12 gauge options from other manufacturers?

Valtro PM5. Comes in 14 or 18 inch barrels and it is Italian made. I have had one for about 3 years and been very satisfied with it. Its VERY hard to find magazines though and when you do they are about 100 dollars.

A bit off topic but while we are talking manufacturer's...
Who made the 15" barrels with the round hooded front sight?
I just bought one used and the quality is the worst I've seen from any chinese 870 clone makers!

Just to quell an misinformation the grizzly-mag is made by Hawk, not norinco. Norinco is an exporter of some hawk shotguns.

Thats very interesting, I was unaware of that.

I am still assuming that Hawk is a Chinese manufacturer though. Does Hawk make anything other than the grizzly/cougar shotguns?

I can tell you that there is nothing wrong with the Grizzly, Ive owned the 15" since CanAm brought them in and have had NO ISSUES what so ever. If your just looking to see what else is out there you will not find anything in a similar price range. Quality wise, I don't think you'll get much more for twice the price except a little but better finish.

If its a Chinese issue, its been talked to death. If you just don't want something made in China then you are missing out on a quality product.

And speaking of finishes, any idea of what a refinish would cost? I remember seeing a good dealer who did refinishing but I must have lost it.

Arma-coat maybe? Check the dealer forums, he has alot of info on products and services. Apparently refinishing is all they do, and have been doing for some time. I'm waiting for funds to free up a bit so I can send several of my guns out to them. The pictures Ive seen look fantastic, and it sounds like the ultimate in wear and corrosion resistance. I beleive Rausch will do other firearms than just the VZ 58 in their Nitro-carberizing and bore-lining process too.

Probably Arma-Coat you are thinking of. Murdoc is the guy to contact for their stuff. I was quoted $165 to blast and park an 870 if it was delivered to them disassembled.

If you don't like them, Tac-Ord also offers parkerizing and teflon coating and they have a great reputation on this forum.

CanAm,

Thanks for correcting me, I do apologize if I confused anyone, I didn't realize that was the case.

Is Hawk a non-chinese company? Or just a different chinese company?

Outside of Hawk and Norinco, any non-chinese options? Price isn't an issue, where the firearm is made, is.

Whenever Canada Ammo hears back from the RCMP FRT lab, these will be coming in. The way things have been going lately though, I wouldn't be surprised if they say it's an AR variant and make it restricted.

Not really like a grizzly, though.;)

There is no hope in hell that this would be classified as non-restricted imo.

It looks cool, probably like $800 but honestly, (under the assumption you cannot modify the stock to a buffer tube), I would rather spend my cash on that new remington 1100 tactical if I were considering a tactical semi shotgun.

The Id think of all the other cool #### I could blow $800 on and forget about another shotgun :p

Unfortunately, I think you're right about it most likely ending up restricted. Which is a shame because none of the parts are interchangable with the AR-15. Other than the AR-15 styling, it's probably no closer to being AR-15 than an Remington 1100 is. Damn b**tards just classify by looks.

another vote for Valtro, mine has seen alot of use and still is my goto scatter gun.

i have seen some used PM-5's with several mags go for around the $500-$800 range... great gun rite out of the box, fit and finish are tight and crisp, feeding is lite and smooth... only thing i dont like is how lite weight it is.... magnum 3" slugs wont seem like fun after the first time you shoulder it too low but i have shot hundreds of trap loads in a afternoon with no troubles.... once again i must say its a great gun.
