well i live in victoria BC.i have a cabin in NW ontario (perrault falls P0V 2K0).if i remember right that is WMU 5...i have a few buddies posted in trenton that want to hunt up around my cabin.they told me they would pay my way to and from if i will hunt with them.
what i under stand is i can hunt there as a Non-resident and buy a tag to hunt moose $386.75.other then that is there anything i should know?

Were you a former resident in Ontario? Will you have family hunting there? They may be able to guide you and you will pay the resident's fee. AB does the same thing, it used to be called Class C guiding there.
Also check the regs; as far as I know there is no guide requirement in that area for big game, but it's worth checking. They have instituted mandatory guides for non-res in a few ares, but mostly Rainy River area, I believe.

That is not how it works in Alberta. You can use an Alberta resident as a hunter host, but you still pay the non-resident license fee.

i think wmu 5 was that guided hnt for non res along time ago but last time i looked it was not the case anymore.that is why i think i might be going to the cabin for a moose this year

Does the cabin belong to YOU, or a family member?

From the MNR...

A non-resident who wishes to hunt moose in Ontario must
have valid hunting accreditation and be a registered guest
and actually accommodated at a tourist establishment. The
outfitter must apply for and receive, on the non-resident’s
behalf, a validation tag to hunt moose (see exceptions
below).

Non-residents may hunt with an immediate relative
who is an Ontario resident licensed to hunt moose in
a WMU that has an open season for non-residents. An
immediate relative is a person’s grandparent, parent,
spouse, child, sibling or grandchild.
If you qualify under
this exception, you may apply in the resident moose
draw for an adult validation tag.

Non-residents who are owners of land in a WMU that
has an open season for non-residents and wish to hunt
in that unit, may apply for a calf validation tag from a
ServiceOntario Centre. Non-resident landowners are
not eligible to apply in the resident moose draw for an
adult validation tag.

ALSO, TAKE NOTE - the Moose season for Non-residents is shorter than the resident season, only open from Oct.12 - Nov. 15 in WMU 5. IMPORTANT because the resident season is from Oct. 10 - Dec. 15, so your buddies will be hunting 2 days before you will be, if you are there for the opening of the season.

I don't know what the deadline is for non-res landowners, but be prepared to jump through hoops for the good ole Government of Ontario. I'm originaly from Ont. and my brother still lives there, so I can enter the res. draw with him. The deadline is June 1. Used to be that you could use a hunting liscence from another jurisdiction to prove your eligability to hunt. This year they require non-residents to have a hunting version of their outdoors card and I'm pretty sure (though not positive) that you need to provide proof of having passed the Ont. hunter's safety or an equivalent course from another province, not just an old hunting liscence. Once you have the card you need to buy the paper liscence, then you need to get a validation sticker. One of the problems is that there are 3 agencies involved. There is a seperate office just for the outdoors card, then there is Sevice Ont. who handles the liscences, then there is the MNR who does the draw, I think. I'm still unsure about the whole thing myself and I end up getting my brother to do the leg work for me because every time I've tried to do it I end up chasing my tail on the phone for hours on end. There doesn't seem to be much co-operation between the different agencies, or maybe it's just that the individuals manning the phones are unsure of the rules and regs. Either way it can be very frustrating, at least that's been my experience. Good luck.
