I would like to purchase my first Non Restricted AR style rifle but not sure where to start

I would like to use it for 3 gun tournaments, at the range

I assume it would be an AR style, .223 and have a 20" barrel

Been looking at the CZ 858 and Kal-tec SU-16 and Ruger mini 14

Anyone have some additional rifles that would suite the bill, Figure all in with some necessary accessories I could spend up to 2000.00 but less would be much better.

Thanks in advance

None of those rifles is an AR, which is generaly thought to be an AR15, AR10, or similar.

I would also say none of those rifles will excel at all three intended uses (3-gun, target shooting and varmint).

In fact the latter two will benefit from a free-floated long barrel, while the former is best done with a light and handy carbine.

AR15's are right out for varmint hunting - you maybe need non-restricted.

Some things to look at:

-H&K SL8
-Bushmaster ACR
-RobArm XCR
-SIG 55X series

Thanks Calven,

Yes, in the title I had Non restricted Type.....I will change the original post and remove the hunting as i wont be doing much of that with the rifle

I was hoping that some of the ones I mentioned above would be just as good but I just don't know enough about them the CZ's seem to fit the bill. What is the biggest issue with them?

single biggest issue with the VZ rifles is the rocking magazine which is not drop-free. In 3-gun this will limit your competitive chances once you get good enough to try and place.

I suppose that may be OK for a 5.56 VZ, but I don;t think they exist for 7.62x39 do they? I've never used one, so tough to comment.

Benelli, AR180, CSA vz 58, mini 14 are the choices out there. Anyone of them have that "addictive as meth" quality and will end up costing you thousands more to feed and dress up.

I believe I'm hearing I should just get an AR rifle (any suggestions would be great) and in the long run which will be cheaper in the end another rifle perhaps like the Remingtion 700 for outdoor fun.

Thanks everyone
