is there a non restricted AR type rifle out there, preferable in .308, but 223 would do, i can use for hunting? I know theres SL8s and others, but any AR type?

No such thing in "AR type" for .308 that isnt restricted.
You where born in the worse country for 308 assault rifles.

I wont even say M305/M14/M1A because there #### unless you're a self made gunsmith with too much money in your pocket.

You're going to have to pretty much give up on 308 unless robarm makes there XCR rifle in that caliber.

Here are your 223 options:

Good luck.

Why can't you say an M305? they're not crappy at all. They'd be a little heavy for hunting....but there is nothing wrong with them. Look at all those posts about the M305, they're still a sweet deal. People were getting around 2 inch groups out of the box with surplus ammo. You can put a bunch of money into it.......but its not needed, and you certianly don't need to be a gunsmith.

I have one and its the least impressive rifle I have shot. You dont have a good guide rod and the gun rings like a tuning fork. Bolt release is useless unless changed. Sloppy headspace on norinco rifles means if you want to shoot with some accuracy you need another bolt. Stupid stock needs to be bedded like a hunting rifle and a decent folding stock cost 700$ and makes the rifle a 12lbs monster.

The guns design makes mounting a scope an afterthought. A bit of shooting and the barrel gets warm and you get flyers.

M305 = 400$ 308 SKS with over-expensive accesories.

The fact any country adopted this rifle when there where G3's and FAL's available amazes me.

its the receiver i dont like

if i was to get an ar-15 type rifle, id get an armalite lower with a POF upper. but thats restricted.

You can ask around for a valmet Hunter or M78, but prices range from 1800 to 3000$ depending on which (M78 being the higher).
