The Akkar Churchill 612 Torso and some Shockwave kits come with a pistol grip, birdshead grip and full buttstock. The barrels on these models are 15", but they're under 660mm with the pistol grip. Seeing as it can't be folded or telescoped and isn't a semi auto centerfire, I assume it's okay. That's the argument for the Sulun SS-211. I imagine tossing one on a different model, like the 12" bbl Churchill would make it restricted. They're available at Cabela's, Doctor Deals, Bullseye North and Tenda. It's only 24.75" overall with the pistol grip. I like it the most, but I put the crappy birdshead grip on out of fear. I'd like to get an okay and be at ease of mind. Should owners of these be worried?

The Tac-14 and Shockwave have 14" barrels which ensure the OAL is >26" with the birds head pistol grip installed.

I assume the Akkar Churchill 612 Torso with the 15" barrel is the same >26" with the pistol grip installed...

Non-issue IMHO.

It's 24.75" with the pistol grip on. Well under 660mm / 25.9842". The Sulun SS-211 is non restricted and 23" though.

Can you post a pic of a measuring tape alongside your Akkar Churchill 612 Torso?

Very curious that it comes with a 15" barrel, is a pump & yet falls short of 26"?

***This is with the Raptor OR Birds Head grip installed correct?

***I can see how it might fall short of the 26" OAL if you installed the other pistol grip...

Seeing as how the Akkar Churchill 612 Torso appears to come with TWO pistol grips...

I'm gonna guess that installing the traditional looking pistol grip modifies it to be LESS THAN the minimum OAL of 26", a NO NO!

Others will chime in, but I think we've sussed out the issue.

I'm actually kind of surprised the second grip is included IF we've properly wrapped our heads around this issue... Someone might install it NOT knowing the intricacies of the law...

Since it comes with all the stock options from the factory, it is manufactured that way. Installing the pistol grip is, therefore, NOT a modification but merely a different optional configuration from the factory.

Since it doesn't fold or telescope and isn't modified and requires two hands to shoot (pump action), it should still be NR when under 26" OAL. Just like the Henry Mare's Leg, which is 25" OAL.

Yes.

Yes. I've determined that a shotgun with a 16.24" bbl would suffice for 26" oal. The Canadian made pump action Revolution Armory Mauler has a 16.5" bbl, making it a bit more than a quarter inch over the minimal 25.98". The semi auto celerity is 3.5" longer.

What about the 15"bbl same 612 models in stainless, green and brown, that come with the birdshead grip, scabbard and full buttstock, but no pistol grip? It's literally the same model.

27.16" with the birdshead grip and 24.75" with the pistol grip. Trust my measuring. I'm a machinist. I used a level, muzzle flat on the floor and Starret scale

FFS. You obviously know what legal length is so put on the grip that keeps it legal. I have a hacksaw that COULD make any gun illegal BUT I DON'T BECAUSE THAT WOULD BE ILLEGAL! I swear, some people are our own worst enemy.

And it comes from the factory that way so it's perfectly non-restricted. Just like a Mare's Leg, as I mentioned earlier.

I went looking for a very old post I recall CanadaAmmo making wrt their Grizzly 870 clones... I couldn't find it, but IIRC when their 12.5" clones came out they came with a reg stock & the 90 degree pistol grip AND there was some controversy about installing the pistol grip as they would then be under the min 26" OAL...

I know we are chasing our tail on this one, I guess anyone who gets stopped with a very short OAL factory shotgun could be put through the wringer?

Thoughts?

I guess the short answer would be if someone is stopped , and the firearm measures under 26 inches , you will probably be charged , and the gun seized . It will then be up to the court to figure it out ; and guess who will be paying the legal fees , and spending their time in Court ....the firearm owner . It could even spawn a search of your property , and maybe a suspension of your PAL/R-PAL , until the matter is settled . At the end of the day , it probably isn't worth the hassle . It reminds me of the old saying " you can be dead right , but you would still be dead " .

Update: I bought another one, sold the full stock and birdshead grip, funding an awesome 5 position sliding adjustable stock with a pistol grip. At the shortest, it's 32". I recommend checking out the various Canuck stocks on Bullseye. Just search "Canuck", sorting lowest price to highest.
