As far as I know, this is the first one... I bought it from Kodiak Outpost prior to them closing up shop. My goal was to get it re-barrelled, and since it hadn't been done before, I brought it in to Ian at Herron Arms. He's done several guns for me in the past and the work was impeccable. Mine being the first, made it a bit of a PITA, but here's a few pics of the results. We both thought that it actually looked better with the longer barrel...

As far as accuracy and function go, Ian put around 40 rounds through it, and dinged all but one of a two inch metal disc at 25 yards - zero function issues. He said it was a blast to shoot... Can't wait to take it to the range myself for some plinking...

hope it stays working as the barrel is cast into the reciever. and that is directly from highpoint. (why epps hasent done one)

glad someone did it, but i just hope it stays good.

Original barrel is cast into a breach block. Barrel was bored out to paper thin, then it was removed from the original casting. New barrel was reinstalled with set screw, cross pinned along with Devcon. It isn't coming out. Any one of those three methods is more than sufficient to hold the barrel in the breach block. The combination of the three will ensure it doesn't budge.

Screw the range, take it to the bush and blast away....thats thepoint of making it NR wasn't it???

True that... will hit the range to sight and plink, as I may put a cheap dot on it... then again, maybe not. After that, it's free to roam the countryside in search of small varmints to shoot.

In terms of price, I got a really good deal on the rifle originally. It was brand new from Kodiak, and the last one they had in inventory. It was missing the bolt that attached the charging handle to inner workings of the gun. So I got it for $250. I machined a new bolt and works perfectly (under 3 bucks). In terms of the re-barelling... well it was money... more than the gun, and less than having one built for the Beretta Storm. I've had excellent dealings with several gunsmiths, both local to me and in Southern Ontario. Whenever I decide on another barrel project though, I go to Ian first. He seems to enjoy the challenge (along with the tea I typically bring him), and the resulting work is second to none.

I did the conversion for several reasons, not the least of which was because everyone said it couldn't happen. It may be a frameable pair of certificates when the registry finally goes the way of the dodo... From what I understand, the 995 was originally classified as prohib (saying it was bullpup as the action was behind the trigger), then restricted - to non-restricted (mine) and finally to non-registered...:)

One more overall pic for good measure...

So how much did it cost?

Why the BS?

Ball park figure of what the rebarreling cost?

Not BS - the price is whatever you negotiate with your gunsmith... gun was $250 - Barrel Blank was $100, then you work out a deal with the person doing the work for you...Ian isn't a sponsoring dealer, and I don't want to bust any rules by posting prices...

The only rule is you can't hot link to non supporting dealers.

How am I supposed to negotiate with my gunsmith if I don't have a price for him to beat? ;)

Please PM me the info if you don't want to post here!

Looks good but without you telling us it may have cost 10x the price of the gun to rebarrel and make it work. Why don't you come clean and tell us how much?

Neat project Stormtrooper.

I took on the much less involved process of having a 9mm Storm converted to non restricted. I think it's great. Nice to see the cool projects.

Hey guys, it's a bit rude asking someone the price. He obviously has a very good relationship with the person doing his conversions. The price he gets is unlikely to be the price you'll get. He'd be putting that company in an awkward situation which would of course come back negatively on him. Plus ultimately I know it's nice to have that information but it's really none of our business. If I bought a car and get something special with a smoking deal I'm not telling you guys what I paid. Anyone who asks would be told it was a lot.

The price will be steeper than a lot of others. Look at the cost of buying a Tavor already non restricted versus the FS2000 and then having to get it converted to non restricted. If you're looking for the price leader then yup the JR or other comparables would be the way to go. The Storm isn't that economical to get rebarreled either. But it's sure worth it to me.

Oscar Wilde quote for you guys/gals.
What is a cynic? A man who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing.
