Non restricted tactical rifles

Hello there, I am new to the shooting sports and I am looking to start my collection. I have been reading all the forums for the last while and have come to one conclusion. Restricted firearms in Canada are a pain in the butt. I can accept all the restrictions on travel and use regarding pistols but I don't want the same restrictions on my long guns. Can anyone out there recommend a tactical center fire autoloader that is not restricted, say something like the CZ? What other options do I have?

Thanks

Hey thanks for the quick reply, I was thinking about the 223 caliber. I was also looking at the norinco M14 in 308 as it is also non restricted and reasonably priced.

depending on who you ask the norc m305 is not really considered a black rifle. it is considered a battle rifle. but since you can mod the thing to hell and back its blurs the the lines between black rifle and battle rifle to a certain extent.

the norc m305 is a good choice for a non restricted semi rifle in the .308 caliber. if that is what interests you, then head over to the battle rifle forum for all the good reading there.

The CSA Vz-58 will soon have an AR magazine adapter available for the .223 version. Given the variety of accessories available, this looks like a promising option.

If you have money in the bank then get a Swiss Arms

The Swiss Arms is awesome. I just dont like the fact that it does not accept standard AR mags. I know you can get a retrofit to overcome this option, but it puts the gun in a heavy price range. The CZ or XCR or CSA or M14 are all good the SL8 would be gtg as well, although I have not had the opportunity to handle one.

There's an AR180B on the EE right now for sale (not by me, BTW).

I owned a Tavor, and it was a very easy rifle to handle and shoot:

I know lots of folks like their CZ's, but I'm more of a fan of the .223 cartridge. Ultimately, I'd suggest trying a couple on for size to see how they fit. If you're up for a day at the range in Oshawa, I'd be happy to bring a couple of rifles out for you to try...

Lemme know via PM.

Well in 223 I have had a few and now have a keeper in my Robinson Arms XCR. I love it especially with the newer folding stock. Now if you want to go for a larger caliber well I will never sell my Norinco M14 so that is my choice until the XCR-M comes out in multi caliber as well, IF that ever happens.

Right off the top of my head, the only non-restricted tactical rifles are...
TAR-21
Swiss Arms (as mentioned on a post above)
I think Robinson XCR is non-res.
That's all I can think of. There's definitely more.

I own an xcr in .223 and have had no troubles after almost 700 rds. Been out in -29c temps and it worked great. The trigger alone was enough sell me but I will never sell my xcr. If the registry gets trashed I will celebrate by getting another one.
